A small team of volunteers are part of a Citizens Science scheme to test the quality, or otherwise, of our streams. It is run by The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and is a national scheme called The Riverfly Partnership which reports data onto a national data base called Cartographer. We test for 8 species of Riverfly - Gammarus, the most tolerant of pollution, through Stoneflies, Olives Baetides, Bluewinged olives, Flat-bodied Heptageniidae, Cased caddis and Caseless caddis and the least tolerant of pollution Mayfly Epermeridae. Sadly we have to report that after over 12ms of testing all the evidence indicates that Yeading Brook is heavily polluted often by sewage which is evidenced by grey sewage fungus as well as high levels of phosphates and ammonia. If you do see sewage in the stream do please report it to Thames Water. Below are the dates of our testing schedule along with the other groups it is on the 2nd weekend of each month.
